Caladenia caesarea and subspecies

Mustard Orchid, Cape Spider Orchid

Back to Caladenia

Beautiful yellow and brown spider orchids. The distinguishing feature is the labellum, which juts more forward instead of curling under itself.
Both the Mustard Orchid and the Cape Spider Orchid are very similar. The main difference is the size. The Mustard Orchid grows to 35cm tall with flowers up to 10cm across. The Cape Spider Orchid is about half that size, growing to 15cm with 6cm flowers. The Cape Spider Orchid is only known from a few granite outcrops west of Busselton. The Mustard Orchid is more common and is found in swampy soils or along creeklines between Busselton and Cranbrook.
